We're hiring: Come join Maveron in a pivotal role
Maveron is looking for a Chief of Staff to report to General Partner Dan Levitan
Maveron is a consumer-focused venture capital firm investing in technology that entrenches in consumers’ everyday lives. For more than two decades, the firm has applied a deep study of consumer behavior to invest with conviction before consensus. Maveron’s past investments include Lovevery, Pacaso, Allbirds, Rebel, Trupanion, Zulily, and eBay.
We’re excited to share that we’re launching a search for a Chief of Staff to Dan Levitan, Maveron’s Co-Founder and General Partner. This two-year, high-intensity role is built for someone who wants to learn at the highest altitude and operate at full intensity on the ground. As Chief of Staff, you will serve as Dan’s trusted execution partner and thought partner, with significant responsibility and exposure. Your job is to keep Dan focused on what matters most, help drive execution against those priorities, and build the systems and processes that allow him to operate at his best.
Here’s a candid heads up: This is not a nine-to-five job. It’s intense, fast-moving, and incredibly high-context – and for the right person, it will be one of the most formative roles of your career.
We value transparency and fairness in our selection process. We expect a high volume of applications, and we’re committed to reviewing each one with care and attention.
Important Dates to Remember
All applications must reach us by Friday, Feb 6, 2026, at 5pm Eastern Time.
We plan to move quickly after the deadline and will reach out to selected candidates with next steps.
Chief of Staff Role
You will act as the connective tissue between Dan and the broader Maveron ecosystem, including the investment team, founders, portfolio company executives, limited partners, and external relationships. Dan has an Executive Assistant who manages scheduling and administrative logistics, and you will need to closely coordinate with her. This role is for someone with insatiable curiosity, exceptional judgement, low ego, and an intense work ethic.
We are looking for someone who is hungry to learn and eager to earn a front-row seat to investing and building venture-scale consumer businesses as well as a top-decile venture capital firm.
This role is based in our New York City and/or San Francisco offices and requires significant flexibility. It requires regular travel, including monthly in-person meetings with the investment team and additional travel as needed.
Onboarding includes a required period of six or more weeks of in-person travel with Dan, working side-by-side to build context, trust, and a working relationship. The role also requires availability outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends when needed.
Responsibilities
The Chief of Staff to Dan Levitan will be given a large amount of responsibility. We fully expect this person to be a self-starter who can move fast and think clearly under pressure. This person will pick up context quickly, read situations well, and connect the dots without needing everything spelled out.
The responsibilities primarily include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supporting investment sourcing and diligence as a member of the Investment Team: Help manage and track new investment opportunities, support diligence efforts, and conduct research.
Leading special projects and firm initiatives: Initiate and drive discrete projects ranging from internal systems and tools to research deep dives, communications, events, and other priorities.
Acting as a primary point of leverage for Dan: Serve as a key point of contact for founders, investors, referrers, and other high-value relationships. Exercise judgment on what requires Dan’s attention, what can be handled independently, and how best to move things forward. Proactively help Dan stay current with relevant technology tools and workflows.
Owning relationship tracking, context, and follow-through: Ensure every interaction with Dan is informed by history, context, and clear next steps. Maintain accurate relationship records and pipelines, and know exactly who Dan needs to follow up with.
Preparing Dan for every interaction: Proactively prepare briefing materials ahead of meetings and ensure tight follow-up with the right stakeholders after each interaction.
Driving internal coordination and prioritization: Act as connective tissue between Dan and the broader Maveron ecosystem.
You may be a good fit if…
You move fast and think clearly under pressure. You pick up context quickly, read situations well, and connect dots without needing everything spelled out.
You communicate with precision. You write concise, thoughtful emails, distill complex discussions into clear takeaways, and can prepare a partner for high-stakes meetings with minimal direction.
You’re comfortable operating behind the scenes to make others more effective. You take pride in creating order, momentum, and follow-through without needing visibility or credit.
You are relentlessly organized and detail-oriented. You bring structure to ambiguity, notice inefficiencies instinctively, and operate with urgency in fast-moving environments.
You manage up instinctively. You anticipate needs, take initiative without waiting for instruction, and have the judgment and presence to interact regularly with experienced founders, CEOs, and investors.
You’re intellectually curious and excited by consumer businesses, technology, and entrepreneurship. You don’t need prior venture experience, but you learn quickly and bias heavily toward execution.
You have 2-5 years of experience in high-expectation, fast-paced environments and a track record of being the person others rely on to keep complex workstreams moving and details tight.
If you’re excited by intensity, ownership, and the opportunity to learn directly from one of the best in the business – we’d love to meet you. For more information about the firm, visit www.maveron.com.
